Introduction

There are TWO POSITIONS available for the MSP DIGITAL FORENSIC EXAMINER within the Maryland State Police Criminal Investigation Bureau.  In order to be considered for these positions applicants MUST FULLY DOCUMENT specific educational and experience requirements.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the position is to provide factual, impartial reports of findings and perform complex digital data recovery examinations on computers, cell phones, mobile computers and hand held devices in a forensically sound manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, criminal justice, or a related field.

Experience: Three years of experience in computer forensics or information technology related experience
Notes: Experience performing digital data recovery examinations on computers may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Law Enforcement experience

2.  Investigative experience (law enforcement / non-law enforcement)

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties, which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Applicants for this position will be subject to a complete criminal background investigation and polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the applicant. 

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. 

3. Employees in this classification must have access to an automobile for use on official business in the event a State vehicle cannot be provided. Standard mileage allowance will be paid for use of a privately owned vehicle.

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification.  It is, therefore, ESSENTIAL that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.  Successful candidates will be placed on an eligible list in the BEST, BETTER or QUALIFIED category.  The list will be used by the hiring manager to select the individual(s) to fill the vacancy.  The list will be valid for one year.
