Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
Participates in formal and on-the-job training programs related to safety and health inspection. Learns how to interpret complex technical standards, policies and procedures necessary for enforcement of the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Law.
Under supervision, observes and participates in routine safety and health inspections and interventions in private and public sector establishments.
Develops, prepares and submits oral and/or written reports of field activity as required and requested.
Performs other duties as assigned by management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: None
Note: Experience in the interpretation and application of fire, health or safety regulations and the preparation of narrative reports documenting factual findings of inspections or investigations may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

Work experience in the construction and/or manufacturing (i.e. machine shop, fabricating facilities, textiles, etc.) fields.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.Some college preferred with specific emphasis within the safety or occupational health fields of study.
2 Completion of an accredited certificate program in occupational safety and health.
3.Professional certifications in occupational safety and health (such as CSP, ASP, OHST, CHST)
4.Related experience such as performing safety and health inspections, identifying and correcting hazards, completing job hazard analyses.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification are subject to call in on a 24 hours a day basis and will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached, or carry an electronic pager
