Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
The candidate performs skilled work in the maintenance, repair, restoration of buildings, offices and other facilities. The position repairs doors, hardware and locks. The position also performs bench carpentry using shop equipment and power tools such as drills, saws, sanders, planers, air nailers, routers and radial arm saws. The candidate performs dry-wall work and assembles, installs and repairs water pipes, fittings, fixtures and heating and drainage systems. The candidate maintains and performs minor repairs to lawn maintenance equipment and operates a state owned snow blower and pickup truck, equipped with a snow plow, to assist with snow removal. Additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Eighth grade.
Experience: Four years of experience in any combination of the maintenance trades, three years must be in the trades of electricity, plumbing, steam fitting, refrigeration or air conditioning.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in any of the maintenance trades on a year-for-year basis for up to three years of the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a degree from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a major in Building Maintenance or a related field for up to three years of the required general experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in any combination of maintenance trades, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Previous experience in general building maintenance.
2. Previous experience in soliciting and tracking work request.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates will be subject to an initial drug screen and a complete background investigation to include a polygraph investigation before appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate. Employees in this classification will be required to provide a telephone number where they can be reached.
SELECTION PROCESS
Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification. Therefore it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED and QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees.
EXAMINATION PROCESS
The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application. Report all experience and education that is related to this position. Applicants may be given a physical examination and will be subject to an interview, background investigation, polygraph examination and substance abuse testing.
