LOCATION OF POSITION
MDH, Spring Grove Hospital Center, Catonsville MD
Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position is to provide full performance telephone switchboard service campus wide. This position operates all of the functions of the NEC switchboard; handles a heavy volume of calls; handles emergency telephone calls; and assists with 911 calls for service, codes, etc., quickly, in a calm and collected manner. This position also reports accurate information and makes proper notification to the appropriate staff and/or external agencies, in a timely manner and provides this agency with professional communication skills at all times an is an emergency essential employee. This position works all (3) shifts, as needed, and provides 24/7 services under the general supervision of a higher level operator or designee. This position will perform secretarial support to the SGHC Police Department and does not supervise.
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One year performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.
Notes: 1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical or Office Services Specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The desired candidate should possess experience with switchboard operations, handling emergency calls and compiling data for statistical reporting.
Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard of a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
