MDH/Prevention and Health Promotion Administration, Center for Healthy Homes and Communities, Baltimore, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

The Center for Healthy Homes and Community Services monitors and enforces State regulations related to youth camps and aquatic venues. This position will provide support for implementing the licensing and permitting of youth camps and aquatic venues. This position will also provide support for website content and information maintenance, as well as customer service for applicants and facilitation of solutions for frequently asked questions.

In addition, this position will answer and direct phone inquiries; respond to correspondence; complete data entry; refer service and information requests to staff, agencies, or local health departments; and, complete minutes for stakeholder meetings. Finally, this position will provide administrative and secretarial support to the Center's Chief, Section Heads, Regional Sanitarians, Seasonal Sanitarians, and students, in order to assist with the successful completion of the licensing process.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes: 

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Thirty credit hours, with a major in secretarial science or office technology, from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits, for one year of experience, for up to two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a Non-Commissioned Officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must have 6 months of customer service experience, as well as 3 months of experience working with personnel, financial, medical, or other confidential records.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have experience coordinating meetings and/or other events, as well as experience with database management.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

A demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard of a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
