MDH/Worcester County Health Department (All Sites), Administration Unit, Snow Hill, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

This position will be responsible for handling customer calls and inquiries, problem-solving, providing specific as well as accurate information to the public. Additional duties of this position may include vital records, fleet, petty cash and other administrative duties as assigned. This position is diverse and varies day-to-day. This position may require work and/or frequent travel to all sites of the WCHD.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience performing clerical duties.

Notes:

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 2. Applicants may substitute education from an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty semester credit hours for one year of experience on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

 3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the requires experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate for this position should possess at least six (6) months of experience with database and/or records management (to include creating, retrieving, updating and managing databases), if you are not using the Education substitution.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate for this position should possess:

  • experience with multi-line phone system in a fast paced business environment
  • experience working in Excel spreadsheets
  • experience customer service

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting eligible list may be used for other positions at this and other agencies.
