LOCATION OF POSITION
MDH, St. Mary's County Health Department, Leonardtown, MD
Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position is to assist the St. Mary's County Health Department with the planning, oversight, and evaluation of a comprehensive Mental Health System throughout the county, including mental health clinical services. Mental Health involves both substance misuse prevention and control as well as mental health. This position manages subordinate staff who work toward improving quality and accessibility of mental health clinical services for the county's population. This position and subordinate staff work closely with many public and private partners throughout the county to address adequacy of local mental health treatment services, ensure the mental health clinical needs of vulnerable populations are being considered and ensure that residents and their families are linked appropriately to needed mental health clinical services and supports.
Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling, or a related field.
Experience: Six years professional experience in health services, three of which must have been in professional work related to treatment and development of mentally ill patients, and three of which must have been at the managerial or supervisory level.
Notes: 1. Applicants may substitute a master’s or Doctoral degree in a health or human services field for up to two years of the required general experience.
2. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus an additional year of professional experience in health services may be substituted for the specific degree.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Health Services Administration specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate should possess a professional license in social work or addictions. The preferred candidate should also possess experience in health services, which includes professional work related to treatment and development of behavioral health (substance abuse and mental health).
