Main Purpose of Job

This position provides full performance level professional clinical social work services to patients with severe and persistent mental illness in Springfield Hospital Center, a state psychiatric hospital. Services include assessments, treatment, and discharge planning. This position involves working with a multidisciplinary treatment team, as well as family, community, and legal resources. In consultation with a social work supervisor, this position carries out family, individual, and group therapies and other interventions. Supports the mission of the organization through active participation in clinical efforts to provide treatment in a recovery-oriented environment. The foundation of a recovery-oriented environment is respect and a commitment to safety in the least restrictive manner possible. This position is considered an Essential Emergency Employee.

Some job responsibilities may include:

  • Evaluates patients to develop and maintain treatment and discharge plans
  • Participates in treatment activities and case management; provides education to patients, families, and community resources; maintains clinical competencies while continuing to improve clinical skills
  • Utilizes community resources to develop and implement patient aftercare plans
  • Participates in on-going Performance Improvement, committee  assignments, and special projects of unit, program, department, and hospital

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers.

Experience: Two years of experience rendering clinical social work services in a health care or treatment setting subsequent to the receipt of an approved Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Social Work classifications or Social Work specialty codes in the Social Science, Psychology, and Welfare field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have experience working in an inpatient unit with patients that have psychiatric diagnoses, working in a psychiatric facility, and experience with case management. The desired candidate should have strong organizational/detail oriented and communication skills.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates must be licensed as a Certified Social Worker or Certified Social Worker, Clinical by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license is obtained, submit a copy to the Maryland Department of Health Testing Unit.

2. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess an appropriate operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
