Main Purpose of Job

This position in HCHD Health Promotion is to coordinate, plan, and direct community health education & disease prevention programs within Howard County Health Department and to promote evidence-based wellness and disease prevention programs to improve health outcomes for Howard County residents. This position synergistically works with current HCHD programs to efficiently and effectively coordinate programs for the strategic goals of HCHD. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, strategic communication and engagement of residents and partners, program development and management, and evaluation and quality improvement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education, Community Health Education or Health Science.

Experience: Two years of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects.

Notes: 

1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Health Science or related behavioral science and three years of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects for the required education and experience.

2. Candidates may substitute a Master’s degree in Public Health, Community Health Education, or Health Science for the required education and one year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute a Doctorate degree in Public Health, Community Health Education, Health Science or Public Health Policy for the required education and experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Educator and Community Health classifications or Health Educator and Community Health specialty codes in the Public Health field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following desired qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

- Direct experience with planning, developing, implementing, managing, promoting, and evaluating evidence-based community health programs.

- Direct experience with collecting, analyzing and reporting program evaluation results to inform quality improvement strategies.

- Direct experience fostering community partnerships and community engagement.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
