Introduction
Applications are currently being accepted for seasonal hourly positions in the Maryland Department of Agriculture's Forest Pest Management Program. This is contractual employment and workers will be paid for actual hours worked only. Contractual paid leave and health benefits available.

LOCATION OF POSITION
There are currently three vacancies:
1 Opening - Western Maryland Regional Office in Cumberland (covering Allegany, Garrett and western Washington Counties)
2 Openings - Central Maryland Regional Office in Frederick (covering Carroll, Frederick, Howard, Montgomery, and eastern Washington Counties)
Main Purpose of Job
To assist with seasonal activities in the Forest Pest Management Program, including hemlock woolly adelgid suppression activities, gypsy moth egg mass surveys, and other projects.
POSITION DUTIES
Work will be assigned in forested and urban areas, between April 2019 and December 2019. Duties will include contact with the public and recording data. Duties may also include application of systemic insecticides to Hemlock trees, may involve exposure to insects, ticks, poison ivy, and forest and urban animals, lengthy hikes, working in steep and rocky areas, and carrying heavy packs, supplies and equipment. Overnight travel may be required, for up to a week at a time.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED required. Each candidate must be at least 18 years of age and possess a driver's license valid in Maryland, with no more than 5 points on the candidate's driving record.

Valid Driver's License required, with no more than 5 points on driving record.
SELECTION PROCESS
BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
