MDH/Charles County Health Department, Environmental Health Division, White Plains, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

This position will perform supervisory level work for the Charles County Health Department. This position will plan, develop, implement, and evaluate assigned environmental health programs, in order to ensure compliance with environmental health laws and regulations. This position will also review documents, such as well permits, site plans and other MDE submissions, in order to determine compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

This position will manage assigned program staff and monitor staff compliancy with policies and procedures, in order to ensure a competent workforce.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists, under the licensing requirements for Environmental Health Specialists.

Experience: Two years of experience performing inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with environmental health laws and regulations.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute possession of a Master of Public Health or Master of Science degree from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a Commissioned Officer in Environmental Engineering classifications or Environmental Engineering specialty codes in the Engineering and Natural Resources field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have experience reviewing documents to determine compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. He/she should also have supervisory experience, as well as experience planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating environmental health programs.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
