MDH, Washington County Health Department, Hagerstown, MD

Main Purpose of Job

This position will supervise, administer and coordinate the Environmental Health's Specialist Well and On-Site Disposal Program to ensure that State and County environmental codes are applied to maintain public health and the quality of the environment. This position will provide guidance, interpretation and implementation of environmental control methods and objectives to staff, local government officials, the business community and the general public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Determined by the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists under the licensing requirements for Environmental Health Specialists.

Experience: Three years of experience performing inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with environmental health laws and regulations, including one year in a supervisory capacity.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute possession of a Master of Public Health or Master of Science degree from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Environmental Engineering classifications or Environmental Engineering specialty codes in the Engineering and Natural Resources field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.              

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate should possess the following:    

  • Master's Degree relevant to Environmental Health  
  • Experience regarding well and septic program development 
  • Experience in management, human resources, and administrative functions.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists. A copy of your license or license number should accompany your application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
