This is a contractual (hourly) position, with an annual renewal option available. 




Position is with the MD Department of General Services, Office of Energy Performance and Conservation, and will be based in Baltimore, MD.

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of General Services (DGS) Office of Energy Performance is recruiting for an Administrative Assistant to provide office support for a staff of eleven. The position will play a key role in assuring the smooth functioning of the office, with duties to include scheduling, clerical, office organization and presentation, and general administrative support. The position will also fill in as necessary to help gather and input data into the State Energy Database that will include support for data projects and database cleanup and improvement efforts. The Mission of the Energy Office is to support State agencies by pursuing innovative and proven strategies to reduce energy costs and environmental impacts for the State of Maryland.


·        Schedule staff meetings and interviews with outside agencies, firms and others.

·        Reserve parking and schedule vehicle use as necessary.

·        Keep office areas organized and functioning. 

·        Assist the Energy Data Program Manager and data analysts with the collection and processing of building and utility data from agencies.

·        Provide staff support through document preparation (agendas, meeting minutes and reports).

·        Support other staff on unique projects as required.

Note: This is a contractual (hourly) position, with an annual renewal option available.


Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.


Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

· Experience working in the energy or environmental field.

· State Energy Database experience.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required. 

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 


Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
