Maryland Department of Health, Maryland Community Health Resources Commission, Annapolis, MD


The position will serve as the Administrator for the Community Health Resources Commission (CHRC), which includes providing logistical and administrative support for Commission meetings; maintaining the Executive Director's schedule, providing administrative support for the Executive Director; and staffing the Commission's office in Annapolis.

This position is an important administrative position of the CHRC, reporting directly to the CHRC Executive Director and, as such, the incumbent will be involved in the central operations of the Commission, i.e., the incumbent is expected to serve as the “right-hand" of the Executive Director. The incumbent will provide high-level administrative support for the Executive Director; serve as the Administrator for the Commission; and support daily and ongoing administrative functions of the Commission. The incumbent will need to demonstrate a high-attention to detail; the ability to proofread and edit CHRC documents for public audiences; the ability to anticipate and juggle multiple time-sensitive deadlines on a regular basis; follow-through on a broad range of activities; and exercise some degree of independent judgment to anticipate the needs of the Executive Director and Commission. The incumbent will need to demonstrate a high level of professionalism when interacting with CHRC Commissioners at Commission meetings and members of the public. It is essential that the incumbent in this position have complete mastery of MS Excel, PowerPoint, and the full MS Office suite. The incumbent will be asked to proofread and edit a range of documents for the Commission, including letters to grantees, presentations of the Executive Director, and other reports produced by the Commission for external/public audiences. The incumbent will also be asked to provide administrative support for the CHRC's annual Call for Proposals Process, which includes managing the submission of letters of intent, full grant proposals, and interaction with independent reviewers who support the Call for Proposals process.


Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.


1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.


Desired candidates will possess at least four years of experience providing administrative support for C-level executives at a high level or in a legislative or regulatory environment, ability to excel in a fast-paced work environment, and meeting time-sensitive deadlines on a daily basis.   


Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
