Introduction
The Maryland Historical Trust (MHT, the Trust), the State’s historic preservation office, located within the Maryland Department of Planning (MDP), is seeking an energetic and collaborative individual for the position of the Architectural Survey Administrator. As the designated State Historic Preservation Office, MHT is the state agency dedicated to preserving and interpreting the legacy of Maryland’s past. MHT updates and maintains several databases of historic and archaeological sites, districts, buildings, and objects, as well as evaluating the significance of these resources.

POSITION DUTIES
Under the direction of the Administrator of Research and Survey, the Architectural Survey Administrator undertakes the following major program activities:
· Oversees the survey of standing structures throughout the state and supervises documentation efforts for inclusion in the Maryland Inventory of Historic Properties (MIHP).
· Conducts intensive reviews of inventory forms, photographs, measured drawings, research designs and final written reports to ensure they meet State and Federal standards.
· Administers state and federal grant programs related to multi-disciplinary survey and evaluation activities throughout the state including selection of grants, project development, hiring, training, and supervision of consultants in the field.
· Conducts in-depth field analysis and documentation of significant resources.
· Provides technical expertise to state agencies, local governments, federal agencies, non-profit organizations and the general public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.
Notes:
1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
For those not using the experience substitution, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in: Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Art History, History, Historic Architecture, Folklore, American Studies or other closely related field.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least one year of professional experience in historic preservation or architectural field survey.
Experience in historic architecture, building analysis, and investigation/documentation methods and a demonstrated ability to conduct architectural field surveys and scholarly research are preferred.
