Main Purpose of Job

The Coordinator will function as the primary Maryland Department of Aging (MDoA) staff managing day-to-day administration of the My Groceries to Go! program, health promotion programs including both federally and state funded initiatives, and the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program. Performs duties under the direction of the Nutrition and Health Promotion Programs Manager, requiring minimal supervision. Adheres to grants management and fiscal coordination procedures.

POSITION DUTIES

A.  Administers day-to-day operations for the My Groceries to Go! Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP):

    1.  Develop agreements with local distribution agencies and manage subgrantee performance.

    2.   Prepare federal reports and ensures federal caseload maximum allotment is consistently achieved.  Develop annual state plan and caseload increase requests.

    3.   Create timely evaluation reports, performs monitoring activities of, and provides trainings for the local distribution agencies) regarding program efficiencies and adherence to CSFP program regulations.

    4.   Collaborate with state and local organizations to implement efficient and effective nutrition education and other consumer outreach materials.

    5.   Represent the Department at promotional events, meetings and related gatherings to enhance program utilization, including planning activities needed to increase statewide jurisdictions, as feasible, based upon department goals and federal funding available.

    6.    Conducts efficiency, time or cost studies and analyses of work processes or systems.

B.  Manages day-to-day administration of the Department’s health and wellness programs

    1.  Collect and analyze health promotion (federal/state/local funded) reporting, for inclusion in MDoA's Annual Report (state) and State Plan (federal) outcome tracking.  

     2.  Manage administrative tasks to support statewide health promotion programs funded through federal (Older Americans Act) and state (Senior Center Operating Funds) initiatives including: data entry, creating quality assurance and data summaries using excel and powerpoint, and provision of technical assistance via email, in-person, webinar and phone communications.

    3.  Provide professional education, including quarterly webinars, collaborate on relevant projects and communicate network activities with appropriate contacts at the federal, state and local level, including: Area Agencies on Aging, the Department of Health, and etc.

    4.  Independently coordinate statewide health promotion initiatives, such as Walk Maryland and other Food and Wellness events, including Falls Prevention Week, and etc.

    5.  Inform and update website content related to Health and Wellness, including issues such as health outcomes, managing chronic conditions and physical activity.

    6.  Oversee the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, in coordination with the lead state agency, the Maryland Department of Agriculture.Create quality assurance and data summaries to advise MDoA decision making regarding Health and Wellness trends, and new programming or funding opportunities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Masters, BS or BA degree with focus on public health, health promotion, nutrition, or other field related to social services or healthcare quality assurance.  

Two years work experience in nutrition or health-related programs and services.  

The candidate should have knowledge of federal and state policy and regulations governing food and health promotion, demonstrated ability to manage grants, strong organizational skills, ability to multi task and work well under pressure, lead and function as a member of a team, and excellent written and oral communication skills.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
