Introduction

The mission of the Maryland State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH) is to provide comprehensive library services to the eligible blind and physically handicapped residents of the State of Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Accessible Textbook (MAT) Management Associate provides accessible text services to print impaired college students attending two and four year colleges in Maryland. Additionally, the Management Associate provides support to the MAT Coordinator, the Maryland Accessible Textbook team, and administrative staff.

POSITION DUTIES

The MAT Management Associate is responsible for the daily operations of the MAT Program with duties that include receiving student requests, verification of student eligibility, requesting electronic files from publishers, convert textbooks into a MAT formatted document, and sending files to students or the student's disability services office. The MAT Management Associate uses personal computers, specialized hardware, and several word processing and software applications. Will routinely correspond with college personnel, publishers, and organizations. Maintaining all appropriate records and to provide support to the coordinator of the Maryland Accessible textbook Program (MAT) at the Maryland State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH)by serving as an intermediary for the contacts with the public, LBPH staff, publishers, and students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes:

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted  at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration or Personnel Specialist classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Special Assistant or Secretarial fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Two years experience in converting text to alternative formats.
