Introduction

The Maryland State Retirement Agency is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System.  The System is a multi-employer, public employees’ benefit retirement system composed of twelve (12) separate retirement and pension systems with additional plan components, covering approximately 190,000 active members, 40,000 vested members, and more than 160,000 retires and beneficiaries.

Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for several Agency critical audits which include but are not limited to, monthly Death Match audit, annual Overseas audit for retirees and beneficiaries, the biennial Over 95 audit for retirees and beneficiaries, and the Earnings Limitation audit. These duties require the ability to analyze data as well as efficiently coordinate the collection and review of the data. In order to accurately reach decisions and effectively communicate with staff members an understanding of retirement law is necessary as well as the ability to timely make decisions about audit documents and the sufficiency of supporting documentation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Two years experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:
* One year experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Access), and Outlook;

*  One year customer service experience including contacting customers via telephone, correspondence or electronic mail.

* One year of experience in matching/auditing documents and information.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position.  You may be asked to complete a supplemental questionnaire.  The supplemental questionnaire may be used as part of the rating process.  Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.
