Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to manage the operation of the Parole Release Unit to ensure that the parole releases for DPSCS Corrections and the local Correctional Facilities are accurately and promptly processed in accordance with the established policies and procedures.

POSITION DUTIES

Ensure that parole orders are prepared properly and promptly for both the Division of Corrections and the local jails.

Ensures that data entry is completed within 14 business days of receipt of the decision

Ensures that approved parole decisions are distributed to the appropriate IPA region for decision services

Ensures that problematic cases are promptly addressed for resolution

Ensures that Interstate Compact cases are processed as soon as administratively possible

Maintains statistical data relevant to the unit on parole release for both DOC and the Local jails

Ensures that all staff are cross trained on the aspects of the unit

Ensures that HB1174 cases are promptly identified and processed in accordance with the established procedures

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Two years’ experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualification is preferred, not required:

6 months supervisory experience

Knowledge of the Justice Reinvestment Act (JRA)

Experience using the Offender Case Management System (OCMS)

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
