LOCATION OF POSITION
MDH, Frederick County Health Department, Frederick, MD
Main Purpose of Job
This position will provide interpretive services by phone and in person that facilitates communication between Spanish speaking clients and the Community Health Division staff as well as other Frederick County Health Department divisions. This position will provide translation of documents for English into Spanish to ensure clients have access to essential documents in the provision of their care and services they receive. This position will, also provide interpretive services for Spanish speaking clients off-site during events.
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Six months of experience providing formal interpretation and translation services between English and a second language. Formal interpretation services may include documented work as a volunteer interpreter for a nonprofit, human service or faith-based organization.
1. Candidates may substitute additional experience interpreting and translating between English and a second language on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Linguist or Language Capability classifications or Linguist or Language Capability specialty codes in the Linguistic field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate should possess the following:
Fluent in speaking, interpreting, and translating English to Spanish and Spanish to English.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
