Main Purpose of Job

A Health Records Program Supervisor is the supervisory level of work planning, developing, implementing, maintaining and evaluating a health records program for a State facility or a local health department. Employees in this class supervise lower-level Health Records Technicians and other staff assigned to the program. Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a designated higher-level health administrator. This position is responsible for compiling and maintaining records at Spring Grove Hospital Center (SGHC). This position will perform duties related to patients' records regarding diagnosis, treatments, admissions, discharges and daily patient census. This position will also assist the Senior Director of Health Information Management (HIM) in preparing required statistical reports, providing general direction to other staff throughout the facility who work with patient records, answering telephone inquiries, and aiding in selecting and training of staff for the department. Performs other requested duties within requested timeframes as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   An Associate of Arts degree in Medical Records Sciences from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience compiling and maintaining health records.

Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute current registration as a Registered Health Information Technician by the American Health Information Management Association for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute two years of experience supervising employees engaged in health records processing and maintenance in a health records program for a health care facility or program for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Medical Record classifications or Patient Administration Specialists and Health Services Management specialty codes in the health records management field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have previous experience supervising medical/hospital workers.
