Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Department of Health, Behavioral Health Administration, is seeking Building Security Officers who will protect the safety and security of visitors, equipment, facilities, and patients/clients who are referred to the Intake Unit, a 24-bed forensic inpatient facility that conducts evaluations and treatments for court-ordered individuals diagnosed with a psychiatric illness. The High Acute Psychiatric Intake Unit is located on the grounds of Spring Grove Hospital Center, in Catonsville, Maryland.

This position will observe and report any incident that may result in loss or damage to property or equipment, or endanger the safety of employees, residents and visitors. This position will also guard buildings, grounds and parking areas at an assigned state facility, as well as staff a watch post and perform periodic rounds inside and outside state facilities.

Finally, this position will perform key tours and building checks, direct traffic, control parking, and maintain logs for visitors and other personnel, in addition to performing other similar duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Ability to read and write.

Experience: Two years of experience in building security work.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Master-At-Arms classifications or law enforcement specialty codes in the site security field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess experience working in a psychiatric facility. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to provide the employer with a telephone number where they can be reached.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing, in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
