LOCATION OF POSITION

MDH, Spring Grove Hospital Center, Catonsville, MD

Main Purpose of Job

The Building Security Officer II provides a safe and secure environment for the Spring Grove Hospital Center (SGHC) employees, patients, visitors, and vendors and the prevention of elopements. This is the full performance level of work and does not have any supervisory responsibilities or duties. This position's job duties will be performed under the close supervision of a higher level Security Officer, Police Officer, RN supervisor or designee and/or Police Chief at times, and at other times with complete independence, depending on the complexity of the specific duty. Security Officers that are assigned to work on the patient's units will comply with SGHC policies and procedures as required. Security Officers are required to complete all administrative assignments and reports prior to the end of their shift,to include but not limited to incident reports, witness statements etc. The Security Officers will cooperate with all departments and employees participating in any and all patient abuse allegations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Ability to read and write.

Experience: Two years of experience in building security work.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Master-At-Arms classifications or law enforcement specialty codes in the site security field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
