This position is located in the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center, a maximum security forensic psychiatric hospital, where care is provided to mentally ill offenders, patients or residents who have been judged not criminally responsible for committing felonies, and to those who are too violent for a regular hospital or residential setting and who have been deemed dangerous to themselves or others.
LOCATION OF POSITION
MDH, Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center, Jessup MD
Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission regulation.
Experience: Four years of experience providing security to patients or inmates or youths committed by courts to psychiatric hospitals, correctional facilities or juvenile detention centers, two years of which must have been in a position that included supervisory responsibility.
Notes: 1. The above educational requirement is set by the Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Article 41, Section 41, Section 4-301 of the Annotated Code of Maryland.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in Correctional Officer/Specialist classifications or Internment/Resettlement Specialist and Correctional specialty codes in the security field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The desired candidate should be knowledgeable of and experienced in adopting evidence-based management principles. The desired candidate should also have a positive attitude and effective/efficient problem-solving skills. The desired candidate should be an effective team builder, staff developer and mentor/coach. The desired candidate should have the ability to collect, analyze and report data, in addition to sound fiscal management skills.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
1. Employees who have not already done do must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a correctional officer during their probationary period, (Article 41, Section 4-301). Selection standards for correctional officer training are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01 and include the following: U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status Must be at least 21 years of age A complete background investigation Oral interview Physical examination.
2. Employees are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, must have a telephone at their place of residence.
3. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
This is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority. A cover letter and resume must accompany your application.
