MDH/Prevention and Health Promotion Administration, Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Outbreak Response Bureau, Baltimore, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

This position will serve as an expert for the Maryland Department of Health, in regards to infection prevention and control issues, by providing consultation, guidance and education. Such expertise will be provided toward infection prevention and control to public and private healthcare facilities, as well as other State agencies, local health departments, first responder groups, and community groups throughout the state of Maryland.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of experiences as a Registered Nurse, including three years of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative, or teaching capacity.

Notes: 1. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or health-related field from an accredited college or university, and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative, or teaching capacity, may be substituted for the required education.

2. A Ph.D in Nursing from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a Commissioned Officer in Nursing classification or Nursing specialty codes in the Nursing field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience and education. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have knowledge and recent experience with infection prevention and control in either a hospital, long-term care setting and/or ambulatory care setting. He/she should also have supervisory experience, as well as excellent project management, oral and written communication skills.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2.Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
