Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to work closely with the MDH-OET Enterprise Database Administrator. This position will monitor, maintain and administer enterprise databases for and in MDH. This position will design, implement and administer numerous SQL Server instances and databases by ensuring operational integrity, establishing performance benchmarks, monitoring and analyzing system bottlenecks and proposing solutions to eliminate them. This position will participate in continuity of operations, high availability and disaster recovery exercises and perform database backup, restoration, and recovery. This position will be required to create and maintain database documentation including templates, guides, and other materials. This position will develop and execute migration plans for regular upgrades of all SQL servers to the latest version and for migrating databases to cloud platforms. In addition, this position will integrate and maintain all software and hardware components used to comprise the enterprise systems on the local and wide-area networks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology related field to include course work in database management systems.

Experience: One year of experience designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and controlling database management systems for computers.

Notes: 1. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate plus thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology-related field to include course work in database management systems may be substituted for the required education.

2. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and one additional year of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or maintaining and modifying operating systems for computers may be substituted for the required education.

3. Experience operating computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining a tape library to process data on computer systems; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages may be substituted for high school education on a year-for-year basis.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Database Administration classifications or Database Administration specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have experience in the following:

---Trouble shooting SQL Server performance issues

---Instance and database level security experiences

---Routine maintenance including database backups, indexing and defragmentation

---SQL server instance and database upgrading skills

---SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery experiences

---Database migration from Oracle to SQL to PostgreSQL

---Working experience on SQL Server SSIS. Creating and upgrading packages

 ---Developing SQL Server Reporting Service reports and administration

---Creating and maintaining SQL Server Analysis services cubes

---Generating ad-hoc queries as requested by users

---Basic understanding of HL7 structures and Rhapsody engine

---Managing and patching windows servers

---Managing sFTP servers

Employees in this classification may be subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached or will be furnished with a pager.
