This is a Management Service position and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Information Technology Service. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Mission Support, Information Technology Service (ITS), is currently accepting applications for an IT Assistant Director I. This position will be responsible for coordinating the portfolio of projects undertaken by DNR-ITS and serve as the main point of contact, or account executive, for DNR business units requesting development projects and higher tier support from DNR-ITS. This position will track IT project status and perform customer relationship management to ensure DNR-ITS is meeting milestones and customer needs. Additionally, this position will create business unit specific technology utilization plans to be incorporated in the DNR Information Technology Master Plan and budgeting process.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in an information technology, business, or management field. Candidates must have a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or Master’s Degree in Project Management.

Experience: Five years of project management experience in information technology two years of which were at a management or supervisory level.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in Information Technology professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute additional IT related graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates with:

1. Experience with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project).

2. Experience leading meetings and motivating a team.

3. Demonstrated experience with program, project, or process management.

4. Demonstrated experience managing government procurement solicitations.

5. Hands on experience with SQL queries.

6. Hands on experience preparing a budget, scheduling, and formulating a scope from project sponsors.
