THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO CURRENT TEMPORARY, CONTRACTUAL AND PERMANENT EMPLOYEES OF THE REVENUE ADMINISTRATION DIVISION
This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting certified eligible list may be used to staff several current and future vacancies for this position/function only.
LOCATION OF POSITION
This position is located in the Payment Processing Section of the Comptroller of Maryland Revenue Administration Division.
The incumbent of this position will be responsible for researching and applying payments to different types of taxpayers accounts and to prepare and deposit all checks in a timely manner. This is a fast-paced, high-volume position that requires someone with good attention to detail.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a fulltime position with a work schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with an hour lunch or 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a 1/2 hour lunch. May be requested to work overtime when needed. May be requested to work evenings and/or Saturdays during Tax Season. For the purpose of this statement, Tax Season shall be defined as the period beginning January 1st and ending May 15th.
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One year of experience reviewing, verifying, recording, adjusting and balancing financial transactions.
- Experience calculating and recording financial, statistical or other numerical data may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required high school education.
- Six credit hours in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
- A minimum of five courses or six months of accounting-related training in a vocational training program in subjects such as journalizing transactions, analyzing transactions into debits and credits, posting to a general ledger, payroll, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technicians classifications or specialty codes in the financial field of work at a rate of one year of military experience for the required experience.

- Experience reconciling/balancing accounts
- Experience working in a production-oriented environment
- Attention to detail
- Experience in data entry
- Experience with personal computer applications, payment processing or tax processing systems
- Good Communication skills

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. This background check is comprehensive and may involve fingerprinting. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six- month probationary period. This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
