POSITION DUTIES

Serves as receptionist and gatekeeper to control access to the County Health Department while maintaining security and safety awareness. Answers, screens, and responds to customer inquiries received over the main telephone line including customer inquiries about birth and death certificates. Provides customer service duties at the front desk/reception area which may include verifying customer identification, answering customers questions, directing HCHD visitors and customers to the appropriate departments for assistance. Also responsible for general clerical work which includes opening and sorting mail, recording incoming call requests that aren't addressed by the IVR phone system, providing customer satisfaction surveys to lobby customers, and maintaining the schedule for the HCHD conference rooms. Responsible for processing birth and death certificates which includes processing paperwork, generating receipts for monies received, and handling delivery of birth and death certificates to customers. Responsible for preparing monthly reports and manually processing records pertaining to birth and death certificates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience reviewing, verifying, recording, adjusting and balancing financial transactions.

Notes:

1. Experience calculating and recording financial, statistical or other numerical data may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required high school education.

2. Six credit hours in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

3. A minimum of five courses or six months of accounting-related training in a vocational training program in subjects such as journalizing transactions, analyzing transactions into debits and credits, posting to a general ledger, payroll, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technicians classifications or specialty codes in the financial field of work at a rate of one year of military experience for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following desired qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

- Experience with high volume of customers on the phone and face-to-face interactions
- Experience balancing financial transaction/receipts at the end of a shift workday 
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook 
- Ability to learn new technologies
- Ability to maintain composure and remain professional during all customer interactions
