Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the position is to provide support of budgetary and professional accounting functions for the Division of Financial Services in various areas to include: budget preparation, monthly expenditure projections, policy implementation, and the year-end closing process.

POSITION DUTIES

Modify and implement manual and automated systems to meet the specific fiscal requirements of the agency

Interpret and apply pertinent laws and regulations to fiscal and accounting operations

Review and authorize financial transaction records for submission to fiscal control agencies

Perform reconciliations of entire accounts by determining the materiality of exceptions, selecting the proper accounting treatment, gauging the effect of adjustments on the entire system and maintaining documentation for audit trails

Prepare financial reports and statements by ensuring that accounting records provide a reliable and adequate basis for required reports, developing and implementing procedures for producing reports, and analyzing and interpreting the reports

Performs other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing.

Experience: None

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with thirty credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by three credit hours auditing, for the required education.

2. Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualification(s):

Experience with the Financial Management Information System (FMIS) or similar accounting systems

Six months experience using Microsoft Excel to include: using formulas, creating and modifying spreadsheets, queries, and generating reports
