Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Engineering & Construction Unit. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Matapeake, Maryland (Queen Anne’s County)

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Engineering & Construction Unit is currently accepting applications for an Agency Project Engineer/Architect I. The main purpose of this position is to design and develop plans/specifications and cost estimates for assigned projects. Field assignments require actual participation in the hands-on construction and oversight of each assigned project from start to finish. Projects range from new construction, major renovations, historic restoration, ADA retro fits, site development, sediment erosion control, roads and pedestrian bridge construction, and other types of projects on DNR's properties statewide.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None.

Notes:

1. Additional experience as an engineer or architect in the building construction or maintenance field involving the design, construction or repair of building structures or system services may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements may be substituted for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering and Architecture classifications or Engineering and Architecture specialty codes in the Architecture field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Proficient in the use of computers using standard office software such as Word and Excel.

Well versed in multiple types of construction associated with maintenance, repairs and renovations of buildings, roads and utilities. Good working knowledge of various types of construction with regards to standards, codes, means and methods.

Possess a strong construction background to include knowledge of materials and experience working hands-on in the field with tools used in multiple construction trades.

Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees may be required to carry an electronic paging device or provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached.
