Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
Duties for this position include but are not limited to:
- Supervises, organizes, directs and controls the project directors, project managers and project teams consisting of registered professional engineers and architects in design, scheduling, cost control and progress of capital projects to make it economical and efficient
- Explores and evaluates all engineering and architectural alternatives and recommends the most acceptable solutions to problems
- Reviews and approves plans, design concepts, technical review comments, specifications and final documents prepared by internal Architects/Engineers or consultants to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Plans, directs and coordinates various major multi-year capital construction projects from program initiation through design and post-construction stages
- Chairs various design review, pre-bid construction progress, and post construction meetings to respond to inquiries concerning projects, resolves technical difficulties and ensures compliance with project program and design standards, contract specifications, applicable building codes, and sound architectural/engineering practices
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Six years of experience as a design or project Engineer/Architect for large-scale multi-year construction projects.
Notes:
1. A Master’s degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience.
2. Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements may be substituted for the required education.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Civil Engineer Corps or Engineering Aid classifications or Construction Engineering Technician, Technical Engineer, or Civil or Combat Engineering specialty codes in the Engineering field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following preferred qualifications. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualifications.
- Experience with the capital budget process and the DBM Part 1-2 Facility Program requirements
- 5 years Experience managing architects and engineers
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Employees in this classification are required to possess and maintain a Professional Engineer or a Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements.
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
