Main Purpose of Job

The Prevention and Health Promotion Administration’s (PHPA) mission is to protect, promote and improve the health and well-being of all Marylanders and their families through provision of public health leadership and through community-based public health efforts in partnership with local health departments, providers, community based organizations, and public and private sector agencies, giving special attention to at-risk and vulnerable populations.   The Infectious Disease Prevention and Health Services Bureau (IDPHS), has approximately 165 employees and a budget of approximately $117 million.

This position serves as the Bureau Director of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Care Services Bureau within PHPA. The position supervises the Deputy Director who is  responsible for and oversees the work and activities of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Health Services Bureau.  The Bureau Director works closely with the IDPHS Deputy  Director to ensure the vision and the core mission of the administration guides the activities, programs and policies of the IDPHS Offices, represents PHPA in close coordination with the PHPA Director in the media, in the community and with the legislature.  The position may act for the PHPA Director or Deputy Director in either’s absence if assigned by the Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant must possess a MD or DO degree from an accredited college or university, Board Certification, and at least two years of medical practice.  Candidates must also possess as least three years of experience related to infectious disease prevention, control, and care coordination and service, in at least one of the following areas: sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS, and Hepatitis and at least 3 years of experience at the supervisory or managerial level including responsibility for developing budgets, tracking expenditures, and staff recruitment. 

 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred applicants should possess:

  • A master’s degree in public health or a related field;
  • Experience with forming and maintaining diverse partnerships; and,
  • Demonstrated public health experience at either the federal, state, or local level.

 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.

2.  Applicants must be certified by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in an area of medical specialization.
