Introduction
The Maryland Department of Commerce is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Business Development Representative (Industrial Development Representative) within the Office of Business Location Services unit.
This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES
Specific job functions include lead generation, responding to marketing inquiries, managing project requests for information, providing incentive assistance and coordinating prospect visits by key decision makers to Maryland. This position works closely with county and local economic development officials, realtors, private land developers, bankers, and others to maintain knowledge of properties and buildings that are available or are proposed and monitors site and building information; analyzes location specifications and business needs and identifies target markets; recommends communities, commercial and industrial sites or buildings for possible site locations; maintains databases and records of project activities; prepares responses to Requests for Proposals; often within short frame times and also stays abreast of developments in the economic development field. The position serves as a representative of the Department and may coordinate meetings, tours and accommodations with directors of local economic development agencies, utilities and transportation representatives, business executives and local and State elected officials.
The selected employee will possess excellent interpersonal skills to work with high level public and private sector officials and maintain effective working relationships; excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to handle multiple, concurrent and high priority projects; and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite for Windows including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, Google Mail and/or other relevant software. This position involves travel throughout the State and occasional national and international travel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Real Estate/Land Use, or a related field
AND
Experience: Six (6) years of recent professional experience in industrial, business or economic development, marketing, commercial real estate or related field.
Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates possessing the designation Certified Economic Developer by the International Economic Development Council.
