Main Purpose of Job

This is a professional position responsible for providing leadership and technical assistance for statewide and local instructional assessment, including formative assessment pathways and the Bridge Plan for Academic Validation, and assists in other state-wide professional learning initiatives.

POSITION DUTIES

Provides leadership and technical assistance in the development, communication, and implementation of instructional assessment policies, initiatives, and programs; provides leadership in the development, communication, and implementation of school-based communities of practice (CoPs) involving data-dialogue/data-analysis, lesson study, and peer coaching/mentoring; provides leadership and assistance in the development, communication, and implementation of professional learning initiatives for Maryland Educators; provides leadership and technical assistance in the communication, and implementation of the Maryland graduation requirements and the Bridge Plan for Academic Validation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  Master’s Degree or equivalent 36 credit hours of post baccalaureate course work in secondary education, curriculum, assessment, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE:  Secondary teaching certification in English, mathematics, science, or history/social studies; four (4) or more years professional teaching experience; high school preferred; and two (2) or more years of leadership experience.  

NOTES:

  1. Two years of additional experience as defined above may be substituted for the Master’s Degree.
  2. Possession of a Doctorate in a field related to the position may be substituted for one year of the experience requirements.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of the Maryland State Standards, the Maryland Assessment Program, and the Bridge Plan for Academic Validation;  skill in effective formative and summative assessment research; skill and experience in data analysis and in delivering, designing, and evaluating effective professional learning aligned to the Learning Forward Standards for Professional Learning; ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks and to work as a team member; establish and maintain effective working relationships; and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Proof of eligibility to work in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act and possible travel throughout the State are required.  Any misrepresentation of academic or experience requirements for this position may result in non-selection or termination of employment.
