Main Purpose of Job
Provide career assessment services that will enable persons with disabilities referred to WTC to develop a realistic vocational goal in order to obtain employment.
Assesses vocational potential and makes recommendations based upon consumer’s interests, aptitudes, and functional capacities; interprets diagnostic data, including medical, psychological, work sample results, and behavioral observations, into a comprehensive report to establish vocational goals; provides vocational counseling; administers, scores, and interprets a variety of tests. This includes the interpretation, analysis and synthesis of testing data presented in a comprehensive, concise written report culminating in recommendations for placement, training or accommodations necessary to assist individuals with disabilities to begin or return to gainful employment. Position also involves case management duties. Serves as member of interdisciplinary team to develop rehabilitation programs for individual consumers; will provide evaluation services for consumers with a variety of disabilities requiring specialized testing.
Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree; Course work in Career Assessment or Vocational Evaluation preferred.
Level I - Professional experience in a behavioral or social science related field is preferred. Level II - Two years of professional experience in a behavioral or social science related field is required; a Master's Degree in a Behavioral or Social Science related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: a variety of disabilities; experience providing services to individuals with sensory (hearing and vision) disabilities; Course work education in career assessment/vocational evaluation field; experience writing comprehensive detailed written reports; experience providing career assessment/vocational evaluation services; experience analyzing data and interpreting results. Principles, procedures and regulations involved in providing rehabilitation services; professional counseling; interviewing, basic principles and procedures in assessment and evaluation; relationship between functional limitations presented by disabilities and employment goals; social and economic structure of the community organizations, and groups providing services and information for people with disabilities; practices relating to job search and employer outreach activities; and of laws and regulations governing the administration of vocational rehabilitation, worker's compensation, social security, and social services.
Ability to: communicate effectively; effectively plan and organize assigned work and meet established performance standards; coordinate and deliver multidisciplinary services required to support rehabilitation programs; demonstrate appropriate teamwork and cooperation skills with administration and coworkers; analyze and interpret complex and varied medical, psychological, and vocational reports; skill in adaptive and assistive technologies; establish and maintain appropriate relationships with consumers, employers, representatives of public and private organizations, providers of rehabilitation services, general public, and government officials. Regular attendance and ability to complete work in assigned frame is required.

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
