Main Purpose of Job

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking applicants for a Management Associate to provide support to the Principal Counsel and Assistant Attorney General assigned to the Maryland Department of Aging as well as the Maryland Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program.

POSITION DUTIES

Responsibilities for this position include typing and proof reading correspondence, pleadings, memoranda, and appellate briefs; reviewing and organizing documents and exhibits in preparation for trials, hearings, meetings or other purposes; drafting routine memoranda and correspondence; filing a consistently high volume of materials, which can require bending, kneeling, and using a footstool; maintaining calendars; utilizing a database to ascertain information and pull reports; arranging meeting and training dates, spaces, and refreshments; preparing and submitting internal payment requests; ordering office supplies; making travel arrangements; and preparing mail for distribution and tracking.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Five years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties.

Note: Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration or Personnel Specialist classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Special Assistant or Secretarial fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to type 40 words per minute;

Proficient with Microsoft Word;

Experience with Excel, PowerPoint and database applications;

Legal secretary experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a typewriter or keyboard on a personal computer, computer terminal or word processor at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
