Main Purpose of Job

These are professional positions responsible for providing a quality assurance function as mandated by public law and Federal regulations to ensure that Social Security quality standards are met, and that Social Security and Supplemental Security income disability determinations are made accurately and promptly for the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

Conduct comprehensive individual claims analysis; conduct training of DDS staff, SSA personnel, and various other government and medical agencies; independently design and conduct comprehensive studies to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of existing agency procedures that affect workflow, policies, budget, and claims production; analyze claims returned from federal quality review components in which substantive medical, vocational, or technical deficiencies have been cited; perform other related duties and other special assignments in response to agency needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree is required.  A Master’s Degree and/or Course work in Management, Supervision of Administration is preferred.  

EXPERIENCE:  

Two years of professional work experience in disability determination services as a Vocational Rehabilitation Technical Specialist in the adjudication or processing of Social Security Disability claims.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

In-depth knowledge of Social Security laws and regulations; knowledge of the analysis and interpretation of complex and varied medical, psychological, and vocational reports; knowledge of research techniques in determining program effectiveness and in recommending course of action for improved performance; skill in communicating both orally and in writing; ability to develop and conduct training; ability to plan and organize assigned work to accomplish established goals in a timely manner; ability to establish effective working relationships; ability to exercise sound judgment and initiative.

RECRUITMENT LIMITED TO PERMANENT FULL-TIME DDS EMPLOYEES ONLY.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Individuals selected for positions with the Maryland State Department of Education's Disability Determination Service (DDS) will go through a complete Tier 2 federal background investigation.  A suitability determination by the Social Security Administration is necessary to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials in order to have access to Social Security disability data, records, and systems.

Please note: These positions do not allow for Compressed Work Schedules.
