Main Purpose of Job

A Recipient Fraud Investigator Intern will participate in a trainee level of work conducting investigations and audits on allegations of Medical assistance fraud, waste and abuse.   Employees in this classification do not supervise.  

The Intern will receive close supervision from a Division Chief or Unit Supervisor.  Technical guidance may be received from a Unit Supervisor.  The work does not require traveling. The internship is expected to last approximately 10 weeks from June 2019 – August 2019.  

This is an unpaid internship that offers academic credit. A faculty liaison must be available to work with the Internship Coordinator to coordinate an internship which will earn the student academic credit (i.e. providing the student’s practicum or class details to ensure that the selected student’s internship duties appropriately align with their practicum or class requirements.)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Full-time or part-time students currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and majoring in Criminal Justice or Public Policy.

2.5 GPA or higher required for academic credit.

Student must provide an up-to-date original transcript of all courses taken prior to starting the Internship.

Further Instruction:

One letter of recommendation signed and dated from a faculty liaison attesting to the student’s knowledge, skills and experience.

Resume and Cover Letter (please indicate in your cover letter which internship you are applying for).

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Interns in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation  of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Please report all related education, experience, dates and hours of work. Clearly indicate your college degree and major on your application, if applicable. For education obtained outside the U.S., any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing an evaluation for equivalency by a foreign credential evaluation service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview).

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.
