LOCATION OF POSITION
MDH, Somerset County Health Department, Westover, MD
Main Purpose of Job
This main purpose of this position is the protection of public health through the promotion of public health aspects of the community and the enforcement of state and local health and environmental laws and regulations. This position is mainly administration and consultative, and involves the direction and coordination of all aspects of an environmental health program at a local health department. Job duties include: Planning, developing, implementing, directing, coordinating and prioritizing activities of all Environmental Health Programs at Somerset County Health Department; Supervising personnel in the Environmental Health section; and, providing consultation to the public and regulated industry on processes, testing, permits, technologies, licensing, and complaints.
Qualified candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in biological, physical, environmental science or chemistry, and six years of experience involving inspections and investigations in the field of environmental health or closely related environmental health experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
A master’s degree in Public Health or Environmental Health Science can substitute for one year non-supervisory experience.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Candidates for positions in this classification must possess and maintain a current license or be eligible to obtain licensure as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists.
This is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority. A resume must accompany your application.
