Main Purpose of Job

The Western Region Intake Director (Director) position is responsible for managing the Garrett, Allegany, Washington and Frederick Counties Intake offices and for providing leadership and direction to the supervisory staff and intake staff engaged in delivering intake services to juveniles referred by the law enforcement, citizens, education authorities, or community agencies. The Director ensures that regional intake operations comply with State laws, regulations, collective bargaining agreements and Departmental policies and procedures. The Director is responsible for working with external stakeholders such as the courts, law enforcement, state attorneys, local education agencies, and other State human service agencies to ensure intake complaints are processed as prescribed by law. The Director is responsible for managing the review of intake complaints and to make certain appropriate assessments and review are conducted to promote the best interest of the child and public safety. The Director is also responsible for monitoring and assessing program service providers and identify additional resources, including diversion services, which meet the needs of youth. The Director ensures that all initiatives are implemented with fidelity, monitor implementation, and needs of youth and staff. The Director also must supervise staff and ensure that staff are providing appropriate supervision of youth on pre-court status. Identify training needs and assist in developing training resources. The Director oversees a staff of 18, with 7 direct reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:      

Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

NOTE: 

An Associate of Arts degree in the social or behavioral sciences or criminal justice from an accredited college or university and three years of experience supervising case management staff may be substituted for the required Bachelor’s degree.  

EXPERIENCE: 

Five years of experience providing case management services to emotionally or socially maladjusted, delinquent victimized or exceptional juveniles in a community or residential setting.  

NOTE: 

Two years of this experience must have involved the supervision of case management service staff.   A Master’s degree in the social or behavioral sciences or criminal justice from an accredited college or university and two years of experience supervising case management staff may be substituted for one year of the required general experience.

Limited to current Department of Juvenile Services employees.
