Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the Executive Director’s position is serve as senior executive and operating officer of the Maryland Board of Physical Therapy Examiners established under Title 13, Health Occupations Article and its Rules and Regulations at COMAR 10.38 as modified. The primary role of the Executive Director to administer the statutory mandates which established the fiscal and administrative autonomy for the Board for the purpose of public protection.  Additionally, the Board operates with autonomy and responsibility in the areas of licensure functions and disciplinary functions.  Fiscal information, computer capabilities, office/human resources functions, policy and regulation development functions, administrative functions, public relations, legislative functions, public information are performed in conjunction with the Department of Health and the Executive Branch of the Maryland State Government.  The Executive Director has delegated responsibility for the budget, expenditures, personnel and supervises a staff of 7 persons.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 5 years of professional experience in public administration, health care policy, public health, health care administration or closely related field, including 2 years of experience at a supervisory or managerial level.

A Master's degree or JD will substitute for 3 years of experience in health care policy, public health, health care administration or related field.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess:

  • Experience with legislative functions (e.g. developing new legislation, lobbying, testifying)
  • Experience working for a Board of Directors
  • Experience with strategic planning, quality assurance, public administration, legislative and fiscal initiatives and mandates
  • Experience working in government (local, state, federal)
  • Experience in facilitating meetings and making public presentations
  • Knowledge of investigations and reports in the health field and licensing procedures
  • Strong computer and communication skills

This is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany your application.
