Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland's Commitment to Veterans (MCV) Director is responsible for the planning, management, oversight and performance of the MCV program. This position directs the overall activities of this statewide program, including the supervision of four staff located in different regions of the state. This position is the Department's liaison with other state agencies and external partners on veteran issues. The Director is responsible for developing and implementing a strategic plan for the program, managing the annual budget, and analyzing MCV program data. The Director develops and promotes new and revised legislation, develops and implements activities designed to raise awareness of both services and veterans' issues, identifies and applies for additional funding and other resources, and develops and promotes outreach strategies to engage the prospective service population. The Director will lead the work of meeting the requirements of Senate Bill 521, including establishing a workgroup and preparing reports and plans.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in health or human services field and 4 years of professional experience in health or human services.  At least two years of experience must include working in area of providing health services, developing initiatives or community programming services to support veterans.  Candidates must also have two years of experience managing or supervising employees.  The desired candidate will have experience managing a budget, developing policies, procedures and advocating for veterans and their families.

Candidates may substitute US Armed Forces military experience on a year for year basis for the required general experience and education.   

SELECTION PROCESS

This is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany your application.
