POSITION DUTIES

The Comptroller's General Accounting Division is looking to fill the role of an Assistant Director of our financial reporting team. Functions will include the day-to-day operations of the section, oversight of the completion of accounting reconciliations, strategic and personnel management to include talent development, compilation, analysis and issuance of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, serve as an advisor and driver of new technology initiatives that impact the State's books and records and development and maintenance of accounting policies. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in accounting, public administration, or computer science.

Experience:  Seven years of professional accounting experience at least four of which must have been in a management capacity in the accounting field.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • CPA license or CPA candidate
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills  
  • Familiarity with large-scale enterprise level accounting system
  • Hands on experience with financial reporting software (Google docs knowledge highly desirable)
  • Self-starter
  •  Independent thinker
  • Process improvement orientation with a focus on creating efficiencies
  • Experience documenting technical accounting issues and drawing conclusions (GASB knowledge highly desirable)
  • Creative problem solver
  • Public accounting experience

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the selected candidate must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.This background check is comprehensive and may involve fingerprinting. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System.
