Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to serve as the Deputy Health Officer for Public Health for the Anne Arundel County Department of Health by providing clinical medical oversight to the activities of the Department and providing support for the Health Officer in the leadership of the Department in pursuit of its mission, "To preserve, promote, and protect the health of all the residents of Anne Arundel County".  This position will oversee five public health bureaus with respect to health issues and quality assurance.  The bureaus are Behavioral Health, Environmental Health, Family Health, Disease Prevention and Management and School Health. This position will also act as liaison to other agencies, academic institutions, key stakeholders, community groups and serve on appropriate committees and task force as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, public health, health care administration or a related field of study, current licensure from a Maryland licensure Board and 5 years of experience in program management that includes direct supervision of staff.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates should possess:

  • Experience in managing clinical and administrative operations in an organization.
  • Experience in data driven decision making in health assessments and surveillance.
  • Exceptional public speaking skills – this position engages and collaborates with various government agencies, community partners and academic entities.
  • Above average writing and editing skills to include writing standard operating procedures, public health content and promotional materials.
  • Strong leadership skills to include the ability and desire to lead and participate in program planning, quality assurance and staff development and mentoring.
  • Knowledge managing Federal and State grants.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess current licensure in a health field from the corresponding Maryland Board.

SELECTION PROCESS

This is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany your application.
