Introduction

The Maryland Department of Commerce is seeking qualified applicants for the contractual position of Social and Digital Products Coordinator within the Division of Tourism, Film and the Arts.

Main Purpose of Job

The primary function of this position is to influence visits to the state by interacting with and building relationships with potential visitors, fans, followers, bloggers, and influencers online.

POSITION DUTIES

The position helps implement and maintain online marketing strategies through popular social networking sites and by using various forms of media, such as blogging, chat rooms, discussion boards, wikis, RSS feeds, and search platforms. Incumbent will work collaboratively with staff from across the Department of Commerce to promote the Department’s goals and messages while assuring uniformity with tourism’s message and image. This position will play a pivotal role in executing and refining Maryland tourism’s credibility and build online communities to create integrated marketing campaigns ensuring consistency in voice and brand. This includes developing the day-to-day editorial content for multiple social media platforms; monitoring, measuring and analyzing the conversations taking place there; ongoing research of new initiatives and implementation of new channels; and coordinating content from other communications team members to be used in strategic messaging and branding.  In addition, the position helps facilitate the Division’s digital products and related enhancements including, but not limited to: internal video content and development.  The position has responsibilities for strategic advice, execution and evaluation for these initiatives; and may be responsible for project and event management; communication (written, verbal and presentations); and design, development and production; all within brief deadlines.

The selected employee will possess excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; must have the ability to maintain effective working relationships; handle multiple, concurrent, and high priority projects; be well organized.

Some Statewide travel is required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Three years experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Please include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or Marketing.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in social and digital marketing, communications or related field.
  • Knowledge of web usability best practices, website navigation design and flow, content classification, and content management and media monitoring methods and systems.
  • Background in Tourism. 
  • Experience in the following or equivalent: HTML, Adobe Creative Suite; Facebook Insights, YouTube Insights, Google Analytics, Twitter, Instagram, Hootsuite, Woobox; Dropbox, Google Drive, WEBDAM and UGC platforms; Drupal, Wordpress and Cision.   
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite for Windows - Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, Google products and/or relevant software as listed in the preferred qualifications.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
