Introduction

MPT internships offer a thorough introduction to Maryland Public Television including our mission and expectations. Maryland Public Television is committed to providing solid work experience both in-person and virtual to serious minded individuals in a positive environment. All MPT internships are unpaid. An internship that is not for academic credit is deemed a volunteer.

Main Purpose of Job

Maryland Public Television offers full- and part-time internships for college students throughout the year. Internships are specifically designed to provide training and experience for students interested in public broadcasting.

POSITION DUTIES

Public Relations/Communications - Interns will support communications staff with ongoing or new projects – projects may include but are not limited to: project-related research, writing and editing of communication products (both external and internal), work with media monitoring/ clipping system, support fulfillment of media requests, database creation and updates.

Corporate Support Sales/Marketing/Client Relations - Interns will learn about corporate sales and marketing by taking the lead on a variety of corporate projects. They will also learn to prospect for potential clients and create a marketing plan for an upcoming event as well as participate in sales meetings and training seminars and accompany Account Executives on sales calls and presentations at local businesses and advertising agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must meet the following criteria:

Students must be a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Graduate of a college, university, or trade school who must be able to commit to a minimum of 16 hours per week and have reliable transportation.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Majors: Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Mass Communication, English, and Creative Writing/Business/Media

SELECTION PROCESS

Interns will be evaluated based upon information submitted via this online application process and may be invited to interview.
