Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only statewide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to ensure that all electrical work is done in accordance with the National Electrical Code, installation of electrical circuits and equipment for new construction, troubleshooting and repairing electrical circuits, equipment and maintaining all electrical equipment for Maryland Public Television. This position will also maintain HVAC system and energy management systems as well as coordinate and lead the snow removal team. 

*THIS IS AN EMERGENCY ESSENTIAL POSITION* 

This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Assist other facilities staff with General Maintenance of building and grounds.
  • Maintain all electrical equipment at MPT's facility.
  • Maintain emergency lighting systems, fire alarm systems, interior and exterior lighting systems, card key access system, cameras and door alarms for security.
  • Installation of new equipment in accordance with specs and codes.
  • Maintain all electrical rooms by making certain that they are kept clean and organized. 
  • Maintain all inventory of electrical equipment and parts.
  • Coordinate and lead the snow removal team.
  • Maintain HVAC system and energy management systems.
  • Other duties and jobs as assigned such as moving furniture, setting up for meetings and other facilities tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four (4) years of experience as a Journeyman Electrician OR four (4) years electrical apprenticeship.  Completion of a four (4) year program in a vocational/technical school PLUS two (2) years related experience may be substituted for the apprenticeship. HVAC experience required.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must be provided prior to hire.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualifications.

  • Knowledge of tools and equipment necessary to perform repairs on various pieces of equipment
  • Knowledge of advanced principles, practices and techniques of the electrical trade
  • Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing and metal work
  • Knowledge of maintenance practices for facility systems
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical systems repairs

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Journeyman Electrical Certification

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24-hours a day and may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to work nights, weekend and holidays
