Main Purpose of Job

Maryland Public Television is seeking a goal-oriented Major Gift Officer who will join a team working to elevate the station’s profile within the philanthropic community covered by MPT’s multi-state broadcast region. This position will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a pool of major and planned gift prospects and work closely with board volunteers and senior staff to support the collective efforts of leadership annual, major gift, and planned gift fundraising for the MPT Foundation.

 This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Manage a portfolio of 100 – 125 prospective donors with the capacity to make current gifts of $25,000+. Staff the President, Vice President, MPT Foundation board members, senior staff, and producers on face-to-face cultivation, solicitation and stewardship visits.  
  • Strengthen the Leadership Society (annual donors of $1,200+) by developing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for donors of $5,000+, with support from the Leadership Giving Coordinator.  
  • Strategically increase membership in the MPT Foundation’s Legacy Society by soliciting and stewarding donors for planned gifts.  
  • Engage with the MPT Foundation Board and consultants to support the strategic direction of major gift campaigns. Staff campaign meetings with the Managing Director, Major & Planned Giving. Work with the campaign consultant and key volunteers to research and identify prospective donors. Attend and staff MPT Foundation Board and committee meetings as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree  

Experience:  Minimum three years of experience in non-profit development, including direct fundraising experience.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must accompany the application.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualifications.

  • Master’s degree
  • A strong belief in the mission of MPT and the importance of public media
  • Experience with the moves management model of prospect cultivation
  • A proven track record of soliciting and closing gifts of $10,000 or more.
  • Discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Superior interpersonal skills, including being an enthusiastic team player and active listener with a proven ability to work well with a wide range of internal and external constituents.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
