Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT," is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only statewide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Main Purpose of Job

The incumbent will monitor the fiscal requirements for multiple media campaigns for various projects such as opioid awareness, problem gambling, and the census. He/she will work closely with the various media outlets on procurement to verify all spot buys have occurred. The incumbent will reconcile the grants and provide required reports to the grant manager and grant providers.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Monitor program budgets and expenditures and coordinate with program manager the efficiency of the program.
  • Maintain records of all payments, manage all change requests, and perform research on all grant issues.
  • Prepare monthly records for all grant related activities.
  • Administer grant records and evaluate financial reports to analyze all annual progress and perform reviews on grant expenditures.
  • Analyze all processes, provide enhancements to all grant programs if required, and manage all grant management processes according to policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with staff; prepare internal reports, and submit status reports to senior management as required.
  • Evaluate and analyze all costs according to budget and ensure work is completed within the appropriate deadline.
  • Maintain and document spreadsheets for all billings and prepare appropriate reports for cost allocations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting

Experience: Two (2) years of grant accounting experience

Note: Experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education only.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must accompany the application.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of governmental accounting.
  • Ability to research, analyze and evaluate complex financial data.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data for accuracy.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to provide a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interdepartmental communications and relationships.
  • Proficient in various computer applications including comprehensive databases, spreadsheets and word processing software.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
